Aloha &
Welcome To The Maryknoll High School, Honolulu, Hawaii,
Class of 1959 Web Site.
This web site is dedicated to the members of
Maryknoll High School (MHS), Class of 1959. We hope that this web site will serve as
an informal gathering place for all the members of the MHS Class of '59 ohana
(family) and friends. Whether or not you graduated from MHS is not important, if you
attended MHS anytime with the Class of '59, you are "OHANA"!. Let
other classmates, or anyone else who might be interested, know about this web site.
And remember the more participation, the more meaningful and fun this web site
becomes.
OUR
"SENIOR" YEARS
Remember in high school, how
we couldn't wait to be "seniors"!. Well most of us can't say the same
about the realization that we are becoming "seniors" all over again. Only
this time it's "senior" citizens!.
It's been over 40 years since
graduation. It's time we all come together again to renew acquaintances and to catch
up with what's been happening since high school.
Please share your experiences,
including photos, with us. You can either email messages and pictures to MHS59@alumnidirector.com or make an entry in the GUESTBOOK
(below) on this web site. All suggestions and/or comments are welcomed and all
emails will be responded to promptly.
This web site is best viewed
in High Color, High Resolution, 1024 X 768 Pixels, with a high speed modem of 28.8
kbs or better and Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.0 or higher. The Microsoft Internet
Browser is recommended because some incompatibilities exist with Netscape Navigator, such
as with the scrolling "Make Plans Now" banner.
So "Bradahs and Sistahs,
E Komo Mai (come in), Kipa Mai (come visit), Mai Hilahila (don't be bashful!), Nou Ka Hale
(the house is yours!)"... ALOHA!

LATEST
NEWS
The 40 year class reunion was held on August
14, 1999, at the Oahu Country Club (OCC). However because of late notices, some
classmates were not able to attend. Despite the somewhat small turnout, fun and
laughter was the order of the night and a great time was enjoyed by all.
With Fabs doing the honors as MC, all the
classmates were 'forced' to get up and say a few words about what they have been doing
since high school.
Classmates in attendance included LOCALS:
Al Wong, Fabs Baquering Crozier, Bobby Mau, Kenny Au, Ray Villanueva, Lorraine Young
Lee, Rennette Wright Miller, Faye Tom Ling Chee, Mel Miyashiro, Eugene Tiwanack, Ginny
Gross Ahlo, Edison Kwock, Claire Murakami Dang, Jarrett Pang, Roger Simon, Willie Souza
and Brother Venard. CALIFORNIA: John Arafiles
Kudos to Alvin for arranging
the great accommodations at the OCC, and to Fabs and Lorrie for the coordination and to
all attendees for participating.
Congratulations to Rennette
Wright Miller... her handsome son, Kala 'e Miller, is the 'local boy' regular on
"Baywatch Hawaii", as well as on the PAX network's "Destination
Stardom". Also Rennette's daughter is a crew member/navigator on the
"Hokule'a" and like her Mom is also a beauty!.
Congratulations also to our
own Major General Calvin Lau on his recent retirement from the U.S. Army Reserve.
Outstanding job Kelly!.
Also retiring this year, from
Pearl Harbor, is Ray Villanueva. Way to go Ray, see you on the golf course!.
We understand that Patti
Rapoza has broken a few hearts (again!) and has gotten married... anyone with more info
(lastname, etc.) let us know... Congratulations Patti and let us know the latest!.
David Kim and Tommy Wong, have
recently moved to Las Vegas. David relocated from Los Angeles and Tommy from
Honolulu. They join Patrick Melim and Jane Izuo Kawaguchi in the HOT oasis in the
desert of "Lost Wages"!. Anyone knowing how to contact them please email
us.
Roger Simon has become quite
the artist, not only regarding his singing, but also for his Koa woodwork, specializing in
beautiful custom jewelry boxes!. Anyone looking for some beautiful Koa should call
Roger.
Alvin Wong's beautiful
daughter, Sharrone, is a current Narcissus Queen candidate. Please provide her all
your support. Good luck Sharrone!.
Vernon Chun of El Cerrito, CA,
retired in December of 1998 as a Civil Engineer from the City of Hayward, CA.
Congratulations and Aloha Vern!. Now you can join Ray on the golf course.
More incentive to come to our 41st reunion:
"Do you realize that not only are we the "59ers" of MHS but also most of us
will be 59 years in 2000!", writes Lorrie Young Lee. Great observation Lorrie
and thanks also for coining the "59er" term.
From the "News at the
Cal" newsletter, California Hotel & Casino, Las Vegas:

"Eh Brah, can borrow some 'kala' (money) or wat!"
Congratulations
Clarence & Adelaide on your 36th wedding anniversary and also on your winning at the
"Cal".
Alvin Wong's
brother, Dr. Livingston M.F. Wong, who pioneered kidney and bone-marrow transplants in
Hawaii, was recently named as one of the Honolulu StarBulletin's "100 Who Made A
Differnce".
Congratulations
to Melvyn Tom's daughter, Logan Tom, who plays volleyball for Stanford University and was
named to the NCAA Volleyball All American first team and is also a candidate for National
Freshman of the Year!
Bobby Mau
recently (1/6/00) underwent bypass heart surgery (5 valves) successfully and is currently
rehabilitating. Please keep him in your prayers.
After living in
San Jose, CA for almost 39 years, John Arafiles has returned to Honolulu, HI.

I'm sure we can convince them into attending the reunion.
Still haven't
decided whether or not to attend our 41st reunion? Here's the clincher!
Lori Kern Carlos, Class
of '87 and Maryknoll Alumni Coordinator, invites all of us to "Maryknoll Alumni
Week 2000" on July 18 - 22, 2000. Alumni Week 2000 coincides perfectly with our
own reunion. Out of towners will have all the more reason to come "home"
for our reunion. Plus all you golfers can form a '59er team to play and compete
against other classes in the Alumni Week 2000 tournament. See "Upcoming
Events" below for more details. Mahalo & Aloha Lori.
